Chime Hopes to Entice More Customers with High Interest Rate

Chime currently has 8 million customers and half of them leverage Chime for direct deposit; in 2018 Chime reported 1 million signups and CEO Chris Britt notes that a majority of their members are coming from big banks; Chime is announcing 1.6% interest on savings accounts in order to bring more members into the fold; the company previously did not offer interest on their savings account product; Chime is best known for offering overdrafts of up to $100 with no fees and allowing customers to access their paycheck early.
